Coming together in the month of October for breast cancer awareness!
October is dedicated to the color pink with the pink ribbon being the worldwide symbol for breast cancer awareness. For Andre and me the topic of breast cancer – not only in October but every month – is a particular concern as we both have close family members who were affected by the disease.
Throughout the month the issue of breast cancer, which is diagnosed in more than one million women worldwide every year and is the most common form of cancer in women in Europe and North America, is given special attention and awareness. With imaginative pink-colored campaigns organizations, companies, schools, sports clubs, patients, their families and volunteers increase awareness for better education of the prevention and cure of the disease. In our family we support in different ways for example, the players on my son’s baseball teamwear pink t-shirts and socks. Our community holds many charity runs with participants wearing pink outfits, bakeries sell pink cupcakes and many buildings are lit up in pink. Even my racquet has committed by wearing a pink grip.
As breast cancer can hit any of us, whether young or old, fit or not – early detection is the best prevention. Learn more here: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/index
